Human Needs Network serves as a community wide catalyst for breaking poverty's grip. In a climate of economic crisis, people are turning to churches and agencies at overwhelming levels for assistance with basic needs. Our desire is that these community servants respond to requests for assistance with confidence, consistency, collaboration, and a compassionate vision that goes beyond treating symptoms. But, we also understand that these existing responders are not enough to actually win amidst the deep crisis we face. We need integrated response systems that are relationally intensive and anchored in a restorative vision.
Through the Human Needs Network of Berkeley, Charleston & Dorchester Counties of SC (Outside this area, click here), growing numbers of people from all sectors of the community - churches, community benefit organizations, businesses, health-care, government, and education - are beginning to work together with the aim of moving individuals and families from instability, to stability and, when possible, to self-sustainability. Whether the result of situational or generational poverty, the needs are real and so are the people.
This Network provides:
- Strengths-based training and coaching for restorative response to human need
- Community Based Participatory Research
- Problem solving and strategy development
- Assistance tracking database [CharityTracker], funded through Trident United Way and in partnership with human service agencies and churches
- Growing community-wide collaboration that aids life change
The result of Human Needs Network's catalyzing work is a Tri-County safety net woven by the whole community for individuals and families in need. Through this network, collaborators provide an increasingly coordinated and compassionate response that leads to the best quality of life possible for our neighbors.
